Difficult emotions can get under your skin if you're not careful. Sport and performance consultant Jessica Garza calls this the "jumping cholla effect," inspired by a sneaky kind of cactus that detaches and burrows its spines into unsuspecting passersby. In this empowering talk, she shares four mood-regulating strategies to help you gain self-awareness of your feelings, avoid catching other people's emotions and perform at your peak -- whatever the prickly situation may be.

Quick Tips to Keeping Athletes Ready In 2021

What to do during shut downs.

At this point, we are certain that we have no idea what's happening next. Fall sports have changed or moved to spring, athletes are sitting out, having to decide between sports, or forced into retirement. Regardless of the situation, there are a couple basic things we can do to take some semblance of control in the short-term.

HAVE ATHLETES FOCUS ON GOALS IN SHORTER CHUNKS OF TIME

When we set closer finish lines, we can:

          1. Make more confident decisions

          2. Adjust more easily

Therefore, start with 30-Day increments for both you and your athletes. As things become more concrete it will be easier to forecast farther out.

          ENCOURAGE THOUGHTFUL ROUTINES

The irony in this statement cannot be understated. We strive to create strong habits and yet it's our routines that create "autopilot". Autopilot is what will stop progress. Have athletes engage in routines that are thought provoking and intentional. A couple examples include:

          1. Mindfulness and present focus

          2. Celebrate and reflect on small wins each week (Great workouts, practice, daily activities)

The best way to keep the program moving forward is to integrate best practices of psychology into your athletes day to day. These are just a couple examples of what that can look like to keep your athletes making progress and staying ready to pivot.

Reframing Your Thoughts

When we’re working toward an important goal it is hard to appreciate the unexpected delays caused by new challenges.

Have you ever noticed how often the challenges we face also contains a blessing in disguise? It could be because life’s challenges usually seem like inconveniences in the moment, especially when they interrupt our plans, or get in the way of something we want to do. Isn’t that part of the reason we call them challenges? *** What challenge are you facing?

One way to embrace challenges is by REFRAMING them. What if we could learn to see challenges as highly beneficial experiences, adventures in learning, or even as a blessing in disguise?

The truth is, with the right mental attitude we can completely reframe the way we experience challenges. And asking the right questions is one of the most effective ways to do that. With a little practice we can come to view challenges as some of our most valuable life experiences.

5 Steps to Handle Any Unforeseen Challenge

         #ultier #challenges #mindset #life

         1. Do a damage report.

Determine how significant the unexpected challenge truly is by analyzing its place in your current state as well as its degree of impact.

          2. Control your emotional response.

No matter what the results of your damage report were, you’ll need to control your emotional response. If you want to come up with an effective, logical solution to the new challenge, you’ll need to remain in a steady in a neutral state.

          3. Focus on the long-term goals.

Remember all your long-term goals, and ditch the short-term thinking. This will help you effectively prioritize your needs to address the given situation and help you objectively distance yourself from the problem.

          4. Clearly communicate the challenge.

Once you have a clear grasp of the situation, start communicating it to the people around you. The calmer, more informed and more objective you are, the better people will be at helping you find a solution.

          5. Collaborate or settle on a solution.

This is the most important step, but it’s only effective if you’ve followed all the steps above. Come up with two or three different courses of action, then select the one that offers the most advantages.

Mental Tip of the Day: Teamwork

Teamwork is the key to success in life, sports and business.

It requires that people manage their egos, develop humility, communicate effectively, resolve conflicts and, above all, commit to one another and to a common goal.

In order for a group of people to become a high-performing team, its members must undergo five transformational stages:

          1. Working Group

A working group is nothing more than a collection of individuals who make independent contributions to a common objective.

          2. Pseudo-Team

When the members of a working group first decide to become a real team, their collective performance will tend to decrease as a result.

5 Ways to Use the POWER of THOUGHT

Add a blog and update it regularly. It's a great way to stay in touch with site visitors.

Thoughts, like seeds, have a natural tendency to grow and manifest in your life, when you feed them with attention, persistence, and enthusiasm.

Your thoughts pass from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind, which in turn, influences your actions in accordance with these thoughts. The conscious mind is INFLUENCED by filters that your PREDOMINANT THOUGHTS have created and STORED in the SUBCONSCIOUS.

The subconscious mind does not distinguish between real and imaginary experiences, and accepts both as real. It will start making changes and attracting opportunities, to make your reality match the images in your subconscious mind.

           First.

We know that we have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life, therefore, we DEMAND of ourselves persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and we are here and now promise to render such action.

           Second.

We realize the dominating thoughts of our mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality, therefore, we will concentrate our thoughts for thirty minutes daily, upon the task of thinking of the person we intend to become, thereby creating in our mind a clear mental picture of that person.

           Third.

We know through the principle of auto-suggestion, any desire that we persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it, therefore, we will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of SELF-CONFIDENCE.

           Fourth.

We have clearly written down a description of our DEFINITE CHIEF AIM in life, and we will never stop trying, until we shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment.

           Fifth.

We fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure, unless built upon truth and justice, therefore, we will engage in no transaction which does not benefit all whom it affects. We will succeed by attracting to ourselves the forces we wish to use, and the cooperation of other people. We will encourage others to serve us, because of our willingness to serve others. We will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism, by developing love for all humanity, because we know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring us success. We will cause others to believe in us, because we believe in them, and in ourselves.

Embracing Change

“How do you know what you’re capable of if you don’t embrace the unknown?” – Esmeralda Santiago

Fear of the unknown can be paralyzing to some and change provides an unknown for many. If you are going through change right now, whether it is organizational or personal here are 5 helpful tips to help you navigate through it.

           1. Understand that Change is going to happen. Change is a good thing. It means that you are moving forward and not being stagnant. Accepting that change is inevitably going to happen and learning to understand why is the first real hurdle to overcome with change.

           2. Build a support system. Find people who are able to help you with the change. Look for someone who is able to learn new skills quickly that you can go to when you need help. Having someone to rely on during change helps to make the process a little easier.

           3. Don’t second guess the situation/intuition. The powers that be have decided that this is the way it will be. Don’t constantly ask yourself “What if...” or “Focus on the unknown" instead focus on the present moment. Doing this sets mind on what is most important right now.

           4. Keep Moving! No matter what happens, you are there for one reason. To do your job, love, care, teach, learn, etc. So keep working through the change process.

           5. Have the Right Attitude – actions and attitude are everything. Focus on how you can help through the change, not how it is going to affect you.

Change can propel you to be more successful. It will provide you with opportunities to grow and expand
